Weekend Ritual

Do you have a weekend or maybe even a weekday ritual or habit? Our household has a lazy Saturday morning policy. We wake up,  head downstairs for breakfast and park ourselves on the couch until late morning where we then get lunch together.

Our couch time is when D and I chat, go over our week just passed and the week to come, surf the net, watch terrible morning shows and generally laze and relax. Maddy happily joins us and usually snuggles and naps with us.

I love our Saturday mornings.

Great Expectations

I am officially losing my mind. Every second of every minute of every day all I think about is the wedding. What will go right,  what will go wrong, what its going to be like,  who will wear what, who will say what. Yeah.  Crazy talk in over drive.

There's just so much pressure for everything to be perfect. The perfect dress,  hair,  make up, cake, music, speech, vows, weather, everything.

I have learnt to accept that not everything will be perfect and to not care what goes wrong. It's all out of my control anyway. As long as at the end of the day both D and I are married and happy,  nothing else matters.

Then there's this other expectation you see in photos, movies,  magazines, read in books,  hear in conversations: that it has to be the best day of your life. What if it isn't? I will be happy and full of love but that won't necessarily mean it's the best day of my life. Does that mean I fail as a bride?

I don't like fuss and attention and I love and genuinely enjoy the little things in life. Like the warm sun on my skin,  cuddles and snuggles with maddy. Heart to heart conversations with D and noisy family dinners.

To date the best day of my life would be the day we took maddy home. The love and awe I felt for this tiny puppy in my lap was so overwhelming.

Will our wedding match up to that? I know I need to stop thinking. Stop comparing. And really,  just stop caring and go with the flow. But it's much easier said than done.

I love autumn!

My favourite time of the year! The days are bright, warm, sunny and just beautiful. The nights are crisp and perfect for snuggling. I have been having endless cups of tea and snuggling with the little critter below all weekend with sessions of sun baking every now and then to soak up some vitamin D.

Less than a month till our wedding now! I'm in two minds. One minute I am calm, happy, excited. The next I am anxious, edgy and irritated! I'm hoping on the day I will be the former!

Went to the alteration place yesterday to get it taken up. Pleased to say that although I have put on a bit of weight lately I still fit and the weight doesn't show yay. The more I look at and put on my dress the more I love it. It's so me. Hope D loves it just as much.

Bad blogger of the year!

If that was an award I would probably win it for consistently going AWOL. Here's a run down on my life since I last blogged, not necessarily in order either.

- was sick with the flu, pressured to go to work, got even worse. Took time off, recovered, went back to work, left less than an hour later with vomiting. Made to feel guilty about taking sick leave - what's with that?! It's not like I enjoy being sick, or am laying on a beach sipping cocktails, or am recovering from a crazy drink binge. I am legit sick!

- had my hair trial last week, loved it! Am having curls with a sort of half up half down.

- make up trial is tomorrow, looking forward to it but I really struggle when it comes to other people applying eye makeup on me I get all itchy and twitchy.

- less than two months to the wedding (how did that happen) and am rounding up RSVPs. Why is it so difficult to pry RSVPs from people. They had all my contact details.

- have booked my "hens". Hate calling it that because I hate hens events. Have called it an afternoon delight instead. I will be having dessert and champagne at a dessert cafe, followed by drinks at some posh bars. Planning on wearing black bandage skirt, and a sheer long sleeved top with gold sequin collar. Will have a friend organise games.

- have been snuggling with my Maddy lots, I just love her so so much!

Oh how time flies

It's been over a month since I blogged? And it's just over two months to the wedding? And the first quarter of the year is almost over? How did this happen!

Every weekend this month is filled with appointments, mostly wedding related for trials, dress alterations, etc.

Next weekend am going to be a self declared alcoholic as on Saturday will be attending a hens day at a winery, to be backed up by work celebrations at the same winery on Sunday afternoon haha. It's a good thing I love a good wine!

Wedding plans are coming along swell, just need to get our house ready for visitors as overseas family members are going to want to check our house out. It's still a bit bare in one corner so will be moving the piano in and putting more photos around the place.

Does life have a slow mo' button? Because I could really do with it right now! Weeks are flying by in a blur. On more exciting news, tomorrow night D and I are off to see Russell Peters live. If you have not heard of him, YouTube him now now now! He's an Indian Canadian comedian and such a crack up. Very much looking forward to it!

Things to do

Feeling a bit bored and blah. My weeks are repetitive and lacking excitement. Am thinking of taking on a project each month, but i don't want to do the usual learn a new language thing so am a bit stumped for ideas. Feel free to chime in.

I asked D for ideas and explained it to be similar to 30 things to do before 30. He came.up with two solutions - 1. Play trivia at our local. 2. Start a family. Fail.

Project February i have decided will be beautifying our backyard. Will get a wiggle on this weekend pruning, tidying, cleaning and rearranging.

Storms, floods and the black out of all black outs

As I'm sure you have heard, Brisbane and a lot of Qld suffered some pretty awful destruction thanks to ex cyclone Oswald. All my family and friends are safe and their houses are too luckily. Not so lucky was us, we were without power from Sunday night right through to Wednesday. It was a long few days! It wasn't the lack of power that bothered me so much, but it was so hot and it was impossible to sleep in the humidity, I only had a few hours sleep over the three days and was one cranky, exhausted and emotional mess haha. Thankfully it is back now. Worst long weekend ever!

The Week That Was

Happy Australia Day! It's been raining cats and dogs so no outdoor activities. Spent most of the day lazing on the couch. Made zucchini fritters for lunch and did my meal plan and shopping list for the week.

Some of our wedding invitations have been received which is nice, have gotten some lovely feedback on them too.

I joined Bupa hospital and extras cover and received a $100 New Balance voucher to spend on their online store. I redeemed it and went to spend it but it only takes $40 off the total balance. So annoying and inconvenient I'll call New Balance on Monday to see if they can fix it otherwise I foresee lots of hassle and running around to get it to work :( sigh.

My hair stylist for the wedding cancelled on me earlier this week so four months out I am now running around trying to find a new one. Will chat to my regular hair dresser tomorrow to see if he can do what I want.

Also discovered an adorable little animal called a Quokka who has the most adorable smile. Google it! You won't regret it.

Happy days

Stinking hot in Brisbane! Pretty over summer, just between you and I.

This morning D and I met with our priest who will be doing our wedding. He is fantastic and very flexible, am so happy to have him be s part of it all. He is very efficient and has already emailed me the ceremony program with the readings, etc!

Afterwards we went to DFO for D to have a look at wedding suits. There is the most amazing suit at Politix which looks so good on him. It's avail on The Iconic as well and there is a discount code, hoorah!

I know I was going to get one of the Marc Jacobs bags for my birthday but popped into Mimco and decided to get the mini turnlock zip top in nude. I love it! The perfect size for me as the original turnlock would have been too overwhelming for my frame.

Also picked up two cute bikini tops from Cotton On Body for $5 each, score!

Bad day equals comfort food

It has been a long week. I have been sent to another store to work in as they are supposedly short staffed. However they are a very quiet store and I still serve more customers when at my own over staffed store compared to this understaffed one. So the days have been going very slow and as a result this week has dragged.

The shitness of the week peaked today and came home in an awful mood. We live in a complex and when I turned the corner to get to our house there was a baby, unattended, sitting in the middle of the road just around the corner in a blind spot. WHAT THE EFF! Luckily I always drive super slow because there are kids that live in the complex and I know they play in the street sometimes. I was not however expecting a lone baby to be sitting on the road though. Massive parenting fail.

So I got home and declared we were getting takeaway. BAD takeaway. So we got fish and chips, all deep fried with no salad. I feel marginally better now hahaha.

Ben's Vietnamese and Chinese Restaurant

Attended a colleague and good friend's farewell dinner and karaoke on Saturday night. My family and I used to go to Ben's fairly often but a few years ago found the quality of the food had deteriorated a fair bit.

We had the Chinese banquet which was spring rolls, prawn toast and prawn crackers, lemon chicken, sizzling mongolian lamb, sizzling seafood and sweet and sour pork ribs finished with deep fried ice cream. This was all served with fried rice.

Honestly, it was all pretty awful. I know the restaurant mainly caters to non Asians but it was still bad even by those standards. The lemon chicken was by far the worst IMO. Thick batter wrapped around dry chicken drizzled with a fluro yellow "lemon" sauce ick.

Our group stuck around for the karaoke but even that was disappointing because they kept playing the wrong songs.

Safe to say I won't be back!

TGIF!

Ok so it's not Friday yet but it has been a long week for me. Finally feel like I've recovered from my flu, have been going home absolutely wrecked this whole week I was quite sure I wouldn't make it through.

What's super annoying is I keep waking up at 5am, for no reason. My alarm is set for 7! That's two whole hours of sleep I could be enjoying but no am tossing and turning and making myself cranky.

We had to pick up D's glasses tonight so stopped by Berry Me, a self serve froyo place for an $8 frozen yogurt :/ it was delicious though! I got original and green tea bad and topped it with passion fruit, strawberry and kiwi fruit. I was going to take a photo and load it on Instagram (it's the unspoken rule of froyo) but mine looked a bit ugly and it melted pretty quick in all the heat anyway.

Anyway wedding invitations are ready to go. I ordered them from etsy as pictured below but in pink and green, super cute if I do say so myself.

Also thinking about purchasing that cuff, it's so pretty!

My start to 2013

Has been dreadful! One of my goals for the year is to focus on the positive regardless the situation but it's been a struggle!

Have been pretty much bed ridden with the flu / throat infection since NY day. Have already missed 3 days work and need to go back tomorrow. I started feeling better on Friday/yesterday but today was a struggle again. Maddy's cuteness displayed below keeps me sane.

Anyway this is a whinge post.

Have also been thinking about my bridal shower, it will be a high tea at either the Emporium, Customs House or a cute tea house in Mt Gravatt called the Willows Tea Room. D thinks i should do something more extravagant but i have never been a fan of the typical hens night and never wanted my own.

I should also add that I'm blogging from the blogger app on my iPad which doesn't allow me to position photos where I want hence they are all bunched at the end. And I can't be bothered going on the laptop to fix it so y'all are just gunna have to deal hahaha.

Baggy bag bag

So lucky me has spent the first week of the new year practically bed ridden with a nasty throat infection. Mm delicious. It can only get better from here right?! Here's hoping.

I have a check up tomorrow with my regular GP to touch base regarding my reflux. I stopped taking Losec after a few days because it was making me feel sick like what Nexium did. But it did the trick and the reflux hasn't been back since I've stopped taking it so hopefully I won't need to get that endoscopy he was thinking about.

Onto more exciting things it is my quarter century birthday next month and I originally wanted a cute Forever New handbag but D said no to cheap and nasty and to get something quality that I could use for years "like a Mimco" is what he quoted. And who am I to disagree, haha!

Am looking at MBMJ and tossing up between the Classic Q Baby Groovee or the Too Hot To Handle Small Top Handle. Both in black.

Help me decide!

Man flu

David has the dreaded man flu over the weekend which he has lovingly shared with me.

I soldiered on and went to work anyway today which was stupid, i felt like death! Went home around lunch time and have been resting.

Maddy was extra excited to see me home during a week day and for the first hour would not leave me alone to rest.

There she is with her kiwi bird she stole from my parents place and our Russell Peters tickets! Can't wait to see his show.
